CONCERTO PER VIOLINO E ORCHESTRA IN Sib MAGGIORE W I: 26

Giovanni Battista Viotti
Critical edition by Colomba Betti
Series Concertos & Symphonies 1780 – 1840

The edition offers for the first time a critical reconstruction of the history and circumstances surrounding the creation of the concerto in B flat major W I: 26 composed in London in the 1790s, testifying to the most refined taste of the composer, the last representative of the Piedmont violin school and father of the modern French school. The influence of Viotti can be felt both from an aesthetic-performing point of view and from a compositional perspective in terms of the development of the form of the violin concerto, here reconstructed and analysed by highlighting the peculiar stylistic features compared to the works of his Paris period.
