Verrando Giovanni

Giovanni Verrando was born in Sanremo, Italy, in 1965. He began studying piano and classical guitar in France, at an early age, at the Conservatoire de Menton. He later studied composition at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Milano under the guidance of G. Manzoni and N. Castiglioni, and philosophy at the University of Milano. He took master classes in composition at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena with F. Donatoni where in 1990 he was awarded the "Diploma di Merito" and the Siae Prize. In 1993-94 he studied at the "Cursus Annuel d'Informatique Musicale" of IRCAM in Paris, where he lived until 1997. He has won awards in the following international competitions: - Vienna Modern Masters (Vienna, 1991) - C. Togni (Brescia, 1992) - Ircam/Ensemble Intercontemporain "Comitè de lecture" (Paris, 1995) - 11 Kompositionswettbewerb Boswil (Boswil, 1995) - Gaudeamus Music Week (Amsterdam, 1995) - Cemat (Roma, 1998) - Festival International d'art lyrique (Aix-en-Provence, 1999) His works have been commissioned by international festival and institutions (Ircam of Paris, RaiRadioTre, French Ministry of Culture, Biennale of Venezia, etc.), performed by many ensemble and soloists (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Arditti String Quartet, Bruno Canino, Ensemble Itinéraire, etc.) at numerous international festivals ("Wien Modern", Centre G. Pompidou - Paris, "Musica" - Strasbourg, Opera Bastille - Paris, "Milano Musica", Berlin, Helsinki, New York, Roma, Huddersfield, Tokyo, etc.), and have been broadcast by the most important europeans radio stations. In 2003 "Alex Brücke Langer" was premiered in Bolzano, a 'composed portrait' commissioned by the "Festival d'Art Lyrique" of Aix-En-Provence and by "Fondazione Nuovo Teatro Comunale" of Bolzano, directed by Yoshi Oida, with the video of Tom Schenk. Since 2000 he teaches composition at the Accademia Internazionale della Musica of Milano. His music is published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, Milano.
