Baboni Schilingi Jacopo

Jacopo Baboni Schilingi was born in Milan on April 4, 1971.

Education
He studies composition with Ivan Fedele and Conducting under Vittorio Parisi at the Civica Scuola di Musica of Milan. In 1994 he gains his diploma in composition from the "G. Martini" Conservatoire of Bologna and a diploma in contemporary music from the Civica Scuola di Musica of Milan. In 1992 he is selected for the "Cursus de Composition et d'Informatique Musicale" held at the IRCAM in Paris, which he attends in 1994/1995; in 1996, he takes Master's courses with K. Huber and B. Ferneyhough. In 1998, as a result of his researches in the field of musical aesthetics and music technology, he is awarded an Équivalence Universitaire from the École de Hautes Études of Paris, gaining a DEA diploma under the supervision of H. Dufourt. He is currently finishing his PhD in "Music and Research" at the Sorbonne under the guidance of D. Cohen Levinas.


Composition
Since 1991 he has been selected for numerous international competitions, among which: Cemat (Rome), IRCAM (Paris), Borsa Ferrari (Milan), Gaudeamus (Amsterdam). His music has been performed in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and United States. He has received several commissions from institutions such as IRCAM, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, CICV of Belfort, Centro Tempo Reale, GRM, various commissions from the French state, MARCO in Mexico, Radio France, Saarländischer Rundfunk, "Settembre Musica" Festival. His compositions are performed in internationals festivals (Présence, Manca, Ars Musica, Musica, Settembre Musica, Milano Musica, Gaudeamus, Tempo Reale, Agora, Musik im 21. Jahrhundert, Festival Sconfinarti, Nuova Consonanza, Neue Italienische Musikszene, among others), by ensembles such as Ensemble InterContemporain, CourtCircuit, Klangforum Ensemble, Collegium Ensemble, Arditti String Quartet, Les Pléiades; he collaborates regularly with musicians like C. Delangle, N. Isherwood, A. Quentin, C. Schmitt, P. Contet.
Since1996 he has worked together with artists from different fields, realising interactive installations, as for instance: A.I.M.T.R. with the architect P.L. Copat (IRCAM, Paris 1996); Daphné with the writers A.G. Balpe and E. Quinz (Anomos, Bolzano 1999); Instruments à gonds with the sculptor Arman and the writer T. Reut (ISEA, Paris 2000); Metapolis with the video artist M. Chevalier and the writer J.P. Balpe (MARCO, Monterrey 2002); Lenteur with M. Tadini, D. Segre Amar and L. Bianchi (Intrusion, Ars Numerica 2004). Together with J.P. Balpe, a writer for multimedia, he has realised several performances: Trois mythologies et un poète aveugle (IRCAM, 1997); Syntax Error! (CICV, 2000); Enographie (Biennale de Poesie, 2003).
Since 2001 Balboni Schilingi has realised various film soundtracks for films d'essay together with A. Fleischer, O. Mille for the Musée d'Orsay and the ARTE channel (France); he also realised the score for the fiction movie Nocturne, directed by H. Colomer.


Research and Teaching 
Since1988 he is developing a personal theory concerning the writing of music, which he has formally called Hyper-Systemic Music: its theoretic foundations have been published in 2005. The results of such theory has led him to collaborations with different research centres such as: Agon, Centro Tempo Reale and MM&T, in Italy. Later, from 1995 to 2000, he has been appointed research fellow at the IRCAM. In 1998, together with A.G. Balpe and E. Quinz he founded the Cultural Association "Anomos" in Paris; in the same year Luciano Berio encharged him of the establishment of the Department of Education, within the Centro Tempo Reale in Florence; he was appointed head of the department from 1999 to 2004. From 1999 to 2001 he has been musical consultant for the RCS-Advertisement group of Milan. In 2001 he founded PRISMA, a group of twenty-five composers which work in the field of musical aesthetics, founding the journal PRISMA. Moreover, Baboni Schilingi has created some application softwares of Hyper-Systemic music: for instance the external libraries for the softwares PatchWork, Max, OpenMusic and PWGL, under the nomenclature of Profile, Morphologie, Structure and CMI. In1998, at the IRCAM, he has realised the CD-Rom 10 Jeux d'écoute, which intend to enhance youth approach to music. Similarly, from 1999 to 2001, at the Centro Tempo Reale, he has created a program of Musical Alphabetisation for children, which has been taken up in schools in Florence, Milan, Rome and Siena.
His activity as a teacher is divided between the École Nationale de Musique of Montbéliard (France), where he teaches composition, and the Sorbonne, where he isChargé de Cours. Baboni Schilingi holds seminars and conferences, on a regular basis, at major music centres in Argentina, Belgium, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and United States.
