Monumenti Musicali Italiani
The Monumenti Musicali series was initiated at the end of the seventies, resulting from the collaboration between the Società Italiana di Musicologia and the Suvini Zerboni Editions.
Originally it included four sections: The Complete Works of Girolamo Frescobaldi, Works by Ancient Brescian Musicians, Monuments of Piedmont Music, The Opera in Emilia-Romagna.
The first two sections have grown the most since then. The works by Girolamo Frescobaldi published to the day are eight, while those of Ancient Brescian Musicians are nine, with works by Marenzio, Contino and Marini. (The contribution of the Centre for Musical Research “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia has been essential for this section).
The purpose of the Monumenti Musicali series is to offer absolute masterpieces of ancient music, in rigorous critical editions, thus reviving works that have almost been forgotten, or have been revised according to criteria that have diminished their authenticity.
