LUCA MOSCA

Luca Mosca was born in Milan, in 1957.
He attended the "G. Verdi" Conservatoire (Milan), where he studied piano with Eli Perrotta and Antonio Ballista, harpsichord with Marina Mauriello and composition with Franco Donatoni and Salvatore Sciarrino.
His works have been performed in many important concert series and festivals of contemporary music, including: Radio France, Beaubourg in Paris, Festival of Strasbourg, Lyon, Avignon, Warsaw, WDR of Cologne, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Wien Modern, chamber music seasons of London, Manchester, Rotterdam, symphonic seasons of RAI of Naples, Rome, Milan, Unione Musicale of Turin, Biennale of Venice, Bologna Festival, Musica nel Nostro Tempo and Milano Musica, symphonic seasons of Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Piccola Scala in Milan, Orchestra Regionale Toscana.
As a pianist and a harpsichord player he held several concerts in Italy and abroad, especially performing the twentieth-century repertoire, including his own music. He has recorded for the CGD the integral version of Claude Debussy's Études as well as music by Chopin, Liszt, Scriabin, Gershwin.
Among his most important compositions we mention the operas Il sogno di Titania, Peter Schlemihl, America, K., Un uomo di vetro (librettos by Pilar García) and Mr. Me, Signor Goldoni, Freud, Freud, I Love You, Il frustino di Brunilde and L'Italia del Destino (librettos by Gianluigi Melega); four Concertos for piano and orchestra, Quindici Divertimenti for oboe and orchestra, Tredici Fantasie for violin and orchestra, Concerto in due movimenti for flute and orchestra, Cinque ballate for oboe and orchestra, Trenta novellette for soprano, piano and orchestra; Undici poemetti, La passeggiata improvvisa and Una mano piena di ore for orchestra; Dreifaltigkeitslied and Down by the Delta for choir and orchestra; four Sinfonie concertanti (for violin, viola and strings; for oboe, violin and strings; for nine ancient instruments; for cello, double bass and strings); twelve Trios, two Octets, two Quintets and a great deal of chamber music (for diverse ensembles) and for solo piano. Over the last years, he has been collaborating with Gianluigi Melega, using his poetic texts both as librettos for his recent operas Mr. Me, Signor Goldoni, Freud, Freud, I Love You, Il frustino di Brunilde and L'Italia del destino and for pieces of various nature like the "cantata" Down by the Delta, for choir and orchestra, Concerto for soprano and six instruments, An Ode To Ludwig Wittgenstein for soprano and ten instruments, A Lie in High C for tenor and six instruments, In the Garden at Ninfa for soprano and six instruments, and the cycle of twenty-eight haikus Words To Score a Rhyme for soprano, violin, cello and piano, Bus 130, "canzonetta" for mezzo-soprano and five instruments and She-Donkey, jazz song for voice and ten instruments.
He currently lives and teaches in Venice.
