LUIGI DALLAPICCOLA IS BACK IN TOWN

81st Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

The Istrian-Florentine composer is returning to Florence with the cycle “Attorno a Dallapiccola” promoted by the 81st Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on the occasion of the new production of the opera Il Prigioniero.

Various activities have been organized around this new production, including a Chamber concerto, a study day and forty collateral events coordinated by the Centro Studi Luigi Dallapiccola which will involve the principal institutions of the city.

THREE EVENTS AT THE TEATRO DEL MAGGIO MUSICALE FIORENTINO

At the Maggio festival two additional events have been scheduled around Il Prigioniero: a Monographic concert dedicated to Dallapiccola, with Susanna Rigacci soprano and Mario Ruffini conducting the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the study day Il Novecento di Luigi Dallapiccola. Riflessioni sul tempo di guerra con musica, immagini e parole, with Luciano Alberti, Carlo Sisi, Enrico Girardi, Paolo Petazzi, Quirino Principe, Mila De Santis, Eleonora Negri and Marco Vallora. The various talks will be broken up by music and art documentaries realized by Dallapiccola at the time of Il Prigioniero.

Monographic concert dedicated to Luigi Dallapiccola

This is the first ever monographic concert dedicated to Luigi Dallapiccola in the history of the Maggio festival and retraces his mastery through six different pieces spanning the whole of his vocal output, both secular and sacred, with Susanna Rigacci soprano and Mario Ruffini conducting the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The program will include Divertimento in quattro esercizi, the Liriche di Anacreonte, the Liriche di Machado, Tre Laudi, Piccola musica notturna and finally Commiato.

Study day

The study day, with the emblematic title Il Novecento di Luigi Dallapiccola. Riflessioni sul tempo di guerra con musica, immagini e parole, will see the presence of important scholars and thinkers like Luciano Alberti, Carlo Sisi, Enrico Girardi, Paolo Petazzi, Quirino Principe, Mila De Santis, Eleonora Negri and Marco Vallora. The talks will be broken up by art documentaries realized by Dallapiccola at the time of  Il Prigioniero and by live music performances given by students of the Accademia del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and of the Conservatorio di Musica “Luigi Cherubini”.

A prologue and one act

Il Prigioniero returns to the stage at the Maggio with the extraordinary presence of Zubin Mehta on the podium, with direction and choreography by Virgilio Sieni. An event that illuminates the entire 81st Festival of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
